January 08 A note of caution. Everyone has a ‘drop box’ that they use for an email address [with no intention of checking] used when required to provide an email address in order to get free stuff or access an additional area of a website or download. If you decide to add this type of email account to Windows Live Writer [WLW] make sure you go to that email account online and delete your spam and clean out any messages you do not want BEFORE YOU CLICK SYNC. Or else you could see something like this for 30 minutes: December 28 With the most recent changes to accommodate all walks of life that turned Classic-SU into NEW-SU a place that I only visit once in awhile to check on my friends post; I really do not need to grasp at reasons to yell FOUL. I am actually hoping that maybe the 20 hour shift i just pulled has warped vision and sense of logical for traditional browser behavior.
But it appears to be different behavior than one would expect.
Ok – so I have to type some more – in the above image that is hosted on my skydrive you can see the two arrows. When you hover over the text that is after the top arrow the status bar after the second arrow on the bottom of the screen shows the URL. You would expect the address shown in the status bar to be the address that you are taken to but when you click on the link "That it your on a time out" your browser hi-jacked to stumbleupon.com/toolbar/#topic=Marketing&url=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.conversationmarketing.com%252F2008%252F12%252Fthats_it_youre_on_a_time_out.htm
Same with all the other links on the page. I know it is still this persons content so they keep the human eyeballs but it seems the original website would loose their analytic data and human behavioral interaction scores for time on site, number of pages, etc. Therefore the New SU gets the PageRank credit that should go to the author of the article…..
It would be clearer if New-SU labeled this next tool tip: Click here to let the author get credit.

Why don’t my popup blockers block this spam or malware or what ever is politically correct? Do we need to stop unwanted pop-ups by disabling the Windows Messenger service and/or properly configuring their firewalls?
If you have any suggestions for stopping these that are reasonable let me know. The ones that I have heard about are ad blockers for sites like last.fm to keep the ads off or another suggestion I have read is to browse with all scripting disabled. It is a bummer that these type of intrusive malware ads force the rest us to make adjustments that affect our browsing experience.
Maybe there will be a little more than a dull roar over this one and popup spam can be added to the spam laws that are forth coming.
December 15 An overview of the data feed submission process Data feeds are a convenient way to create multiple items in Google Base. Feeds are assigned an item type, which classifies the feed according to what sort of items it contains. Once you've created your file, you'll upload it to Google Base. After your file is processed, your items will be added to Google Base. Creating and submitting your feed can be done in just four steps: 1. Select Item Type You begin the process by choosing an item type based on the collection of items your feed contains. There are over a dozen to choose from, including common types such as Products, Vehicles, Jobs, and Recipes. Each item type is associated with its own set of standard attributes, which define the characteristics of your items. The predefined item types include a list of common attributes and feed file samples. You can also define your own custom item type if needed. 2. Create Data Feed This step begins with choosing the format of your feed – tab-delimited or XML. Comparisons of these two formats along with examples are provided. You'll then add your item data and save the feed, which is now ready to be registered and uploaded in your Google Base account. 3. Register Data Feed After creating the file, you must register it in your Google Base account. This lets our system know to expect your file, and what item type it is. 4. Submit Data Feed Once you've registered your file, you'll need to upload it to your Google Base account. This can be done from within Google Base itself or via FTP (File Transfer Protocol). These methods are discussed to help you decide which one to use. Your items will be added to and appear in Google Base after your file is successfully uploaded and processed. In general, this takes up to 24 hours. Video in Breeze here: http://services.google.com/bulkupload/excel/ December 10 December 09

April 05 Google Optimization and Flash Optimization
As many of you already know, Flash is basically a movie with repeating frames. Meaning one line of text could be repeated 100 times for a one second effect. Googlebot doesn't have eyes and employs artificial intelligence that cannot ascertain when to stop reading the repeating text.
Although Googlebot can typically:
- Read Flash files
- Take the content out as a text file to be calculated for placement
- Follow the links to other pages
The problem is as described above - how correct is the information that they extract; especially repeating text? Textual contents taken by Google depend on the flash programming as text can be stored in Flash as graphics or symbols. Since Googlebot doesn't currently read these graphic symbols it is important for keywords to be entirely STATIC TEXT. All of this means is that even if your Flash content is in the index, it might be missing some text, content, or links due to the way that it was created.
One of our services is duplication or replication using our optimization knowledge of flash websites. We review your flash and determine how much of it is search engine friendly and then strategically reverse the text symbols or graphic text into regular index able text that can be read by the top search engines. Then break out the areas of the movie into static URL's. Most entirely flash sites do not have a URL that changes; we can fix this and expand your offering to google for more traffic and revenue!! Cut the number of new email messages coming in
Try to reduce the number of incoming e-mail messages. Be sure to cancel subscriptions to unwanted mailings. The messages pile up if you don’t have time to read them. Spam filters reduce the amount of spam in your inbox. But don’t think that it will eliminate spam completely. Some will still get through as email spammers become more creative.
Do your friends send jokes or chain messages? Explain your situation and ask that they stop. Hopefully, they’ll oblige. Sometimes it is easy to give them a ‘JUNK Email’ address to allow you to receive their musings but only review once a month at the alternate location. This separates business from pleasure and increases your work flow.
Respond Accordingly
Not all e-mail requires a response. If you receive an e-mail addressed to several people, you may not need to respond. If a response it required, it may not need to go to everybody – do the others a favor and leave them off the forward or reply if possible. Be clear and to the point in your email response; restrict your messages to a few sentences. If the e-mail contains different ideas, reply to each concept in separate messages. This may take longer at first; it will be easier to deal with each e-mail thread under complicated business development issues.
E-mail subject lines should correlate to the body of the mail. Be as descriptive as possible. Subject lines that say things like "question" or "hello" should be avoided.
Recipients won’t know:
1.What the message is about
2. How to categorize responses.
If you have a one-line e-mail, put it in the subject line. This will save you and the recipient valuable time. If possible, create a set of codes with your co-workers. Placed in the subject line, codes help you process and prioritize messages. For example, use "FYI" for informational messages. Use "AR" for action required and "URG" for urgent messages. If you have long project names you can abbreviate project name from the beginning and use in the subject line. For example: Helen Pensanti, MD becomes HPMD internally for tracking and working with the client.
Be courteous when forwarding an e-mail. Summarize the message and say why you’re forwarding it. This is particularly helpful if the e-mail contains several messages.
Recipients will appreciate your thoughtfulness. They won’t need to read through several messages to guess your thoughts. This will cut down on questions from recipients.
Don’t copy someone on a message unless it is necessary. And explain why you’re copying them. Recipients won’t need to guess your intentions. This means less back and forth messages.
Avoid the temptation to check your e-mail every two minutes. Check it every hour on the hour for important messages. If you can go longer, do so. Of course, this might not be feasible in some work environments.
Set time aside each morning and evening to process your inbox. When you’re done, it should be completely empty. File messages you need to keep. Set reminders for messages that require you to follow up.
Respond to messages immediately, so you only read them once. There is an exception to this rule. If emotions might govern your response, give yourself a cooling-down period. We suggest that you write the draft response with your feelings and leave on your desktop. (Do not add the recipients address as it could get accidentally sent.) Come back to the email when your head is clear and remove your emotions.
Explore the tools your e-mail program offers by reading the help files. Set follow-up reminders, filters and folders to help file and prioritize e-mail. Auto-responders can alert business associates when you’re out of town. You won’t come back to a full inbox. January 13 Below is a data center at Google that showed every listing as a [flash] site in front of the SERP title. The search performed was for a rare font style... guess it is popular with the flash designers.
This is good news that the engines are getting deeper into the flash content. Beware, if you are doing 'alternative medicine' for flash websites you will want to reduce your Flash SEO Medication as you could over dose and your rankings will dye from DUP content delivered by the actual page PLUS the flash website medications.
// the image loaded here was poor... please view the image of the Google serp over on my SEO Website coder section: At the eMetrics Summit in Washington, D.C. Brett Crosby announced several Google Analytics features that will be rolled out over the coming weeks. Here's a rundown.

December 18 Measure business website success using targeted traffic and conversions. Historically SEOs have determined success by checking the rankings in the search engines for various keyword phrases. Due to numerous factors such as personalized search, geo-targeted search and multiple search engine datacenters, no two searches will show the same results.
Google search using a particular phrase in the morning, then perform the same search in the afternoon and see may see different results. Rankings are simply not a vital measure of business website success. All the #1 rankings in the world do not mean a thing if:
- You're the only one seeing those rankings
- You're ranked for keyword phrases nobody is searching on
- the rankings bring Web site traffic, but not from people interested in what you are selling.
Rankings do not help your business make money. Search engine marketing services success is measured by how much targeted traffic is delivered, and more importantly how much of that traffic converts from visitors to buyers.
SEO Expert Jason December 15 Our California Web Service Consultants will be laying out the next Orange County Marketing Event based on feedback being analyzed now.
